It is possible that Jon Brion is the most famous artist you’ve heard but never heard of. His productions, songs and scores have been unavoidable over the past 25 years yet he is still somewhat invisible to the world. It’s hard to know where to start when summing up this genius. Yes, genius is a word that gets falsely banded around but this guy is truly a gift and for that reason we felt an urge to shine a spotlight on his work with artists from around the world covering his songs.

Where to begin…

Firstly, describing best what role Jon plays in the world of music is tricky. He is perhaps best known as a film score composer with his best loved works being Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Punch-Drunk Love, I Heart Huckabees and more recently Lady Bird. As a producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist he has worked with artists as varied as Kanye West, Elliott Smith, Frank Ocean, Best Coast, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Evan Dando, Beyonce and the late Mac Miller. Often shying away from the limelight he is very much the guy behind the guy. Despite being the creative force on some of the biggest records of the last decade he is unrecognised in the street, unassuming and humble. A sound guru with an arsenal of obscure vintage gear and limitless ideas, regardless of genre or project he is the man you call when you want to escape the refines of your musical box. In summary he kinda IS music.
